Village Energy Security Programme(VESP)
About Project
Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources(MNES), Govt. of India, New Delhi has envisaged to electrify remote villages through non-conventional enegy source like biomass gasifiers under a programme called Village Energy Security Programme(VESP). Presently these villages cannot be electrified through normal grid lines. Hence MNES granted a total of 100 such projects in the country of which Orissa has managed to grab a sizeable number of 14.
In Orissa,MNES in association with Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency(OREDA) and READ Foundation has implemented the programme in Mahisiakada village of Dhenkanal district and Jamuganda village of Nayagarh district.
Under this programme, in each village 20 kW gasifiers (two 10 kW units) would be installed, each of which can light up at least 100 households. This gasifier system has been found to encounter less operational problems.
The objective of VESP is not only lighting up these remote habitations but to enhance the livelihood activities such as irrigation, small enterprise development etc. with energy security.
