Details of the Project
Back Ground:
READ foundation has selected by MVSN to carry out employment generation programme under Support to Training and Employment Programme for women(STEP) project, which was launched in 1986 as one of the measures to ensure well being of women in the traditional informal sector.The programme of STEP advocates the objectives of extending training for up-gradation of skills and sustainable employment for women through a variety of action-oriented projects,which employ women in large numbers.The scheme covers 8 traditional sectors of employment, viz. Agriculture, Small Animal Husbandry & Dairy.Two more sector, namely social forestry and wasteland development have been added later.
The Concept:
The programme of STEP aims to make a significant impact on women in traditional sectors by up-grading skills and providing employment to such women on a project basis by mobilizing women in viable groups, improving skills,arranging for productive assets,creating backward and forward linkages, importing/arranging for support services, providing access to credit, awareness generation, gender sensitization, nutrition education, sensitization of project functionaries. Thus, STEP advocates an integrated package of inputs timing at the integrated development of poor women in traditional sectors. The ultimate endeavour of each project should be to develop the group to thrive on a self-sustaining basis in the market place with the minimum Governmental support and intervention after the project period is over.
Objectives:
- To provide training for skill up-gradation.
- To mobilizing women in small viable groups and making facilities available through training and access to create.
- To enabling groups of women to take up employment cum-income generation programmes of their own.
- To provide support services for further improving training and employment conditions of women.

The target group to be covered the STEP programme includes the marginalized, asset less rural women and female headed household, migrant labourers, tribal and other dispossessed groups of Nayagarh & Nuapada district preferably those who are involved in SHG activity. |
