Goal and Objectives of the Study

The long term objectives or goal of the study is to help policy makers and programme planners in the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Orissa to develop a frame work for enhancing the scope of involvement of PRIs in health programme management and delivery system and thereby institutionalize the community participation.

    1. Institutional analysis: To study the structure and functions of PRIs with specific reference to health institutions.
    2. Situational analysis to assess the current status of involvement of PRI in Health Sector.
    3. To assess the operational constraints of PRIs and Health functionaries as well as remedial measures.
    4. To assess the modality of transfer of power and competencies required to carry forward the work.
    5. To study the devolution of powers to PRIs and to define core functions at different levels.(Types of health services that can be decentralized at different levels) for proper implementation by the Panchayats)
