History

It was Eight years ago that, Renewable Energy and Agricultural Development (READ) foundation became operational as a civil organisation with it’s central office at Bhubaneswar and jurisdiction all over India.Back then in 1998-99 and today as well it has  been focusing with “Pro-poor Development Agenda Through Alternative Energy and Social Synergy”.

READ strongly believes in people’s participation and people centered development ,thus always in search of an alternatives to evolve sustainable measures to improve the conditions of poor by empowering them with knowledge,skill and opportunity.

READ realizes that, unless people are mobilized,sensitized and empowered, they can never be able to manage their own development  agenda.Hence it is engaged in building up capacities of the development activists and other organizations for enhancing their competency and efficiency.

READ as a firm believer in the process of “Learn and Let Learn Others” has established a wing named “Natural and Indigenous Resource Management Consortium”(NIRMAN) & holding an institution called “Asian Institution of Management for Sustainable Development “(AIMSD). It has also entered into the partnership with corporate bodies for best utilization of digital devices and e-technology for storing and banking of basic data and information into usable form for all organizations involved in development process.

READ as a firm believer in the process of learning, emphasises on the concerted and co-operative efforts of Women folk and organise themselves into small groups towards achieving social status in all sphere of activities. Besides another wing named Natural and Indigenous Resource Management Consortium (NIRMAN) has also established. This wing follows the strategy to strengthen community organisation and activate mechanism for achieving sustainable synergy between community and natural resources. In pursuance to this the organisation has an institution,” Asian Institute of Management for sustainable Development (AIMSD)” under the area of capacity Building And Institutional Development. This institution is designed to facilitate the sharing of knowledge & information dissemination activities. It tries to create a forum for the convergence between knowledge, Governance and Training.

READ enters into partnership with corporate bodies for best utilisation of digital devices and e-technology for storing and banking of basic data’s and information into usable form for all organisations involved in developmental process. Ventures like “sustainable development network (SD Net)” and “Data Globe” are on pipeline.

READ has drawn a two dimensional strategy, Long term and short term. According to long term strategy READ will limits its focus to “Natural Resources Management”(NRM) and “Micro Finance & Entreprise Development’.Renewable Energy and Water Management will be the high priority area for livlihoods intervention Under NRM. Where as in MF&E the Small credit for tiny business venture focousing women and various users group will get high priority .The programmes under Capacity Building and Institutional Development will be converted into an institute as a separate body.

According to short term planning, the other areas like Basic Needs & Rights,Community Health, and Local Self-Governance will get exclusive focus only up to year 2007. Thereafter these will be integrated with first two areas of activity as an inbuilt component.
